The Lilaloka representatives (Photographer: Jorren)The final presentation in the Unity Pavillion was that of the Lilaloka group. Lilaloka means "the Universe of Play". This group, at the moment consisting of mostly women, offers a development-through-play program for kids. It is complementary to regular education, and lets children decide the path their development follows. Through games, kids learn to make use of their talents. This new and original idea is presented and discussed by members of Auroville International. Read more

Volunteering for the cleaning up

Cleaning up the Isai Ambalam School compound (Photographer: Mari)The Auroville community have joint together to work in the cleaning up of public spaces after the stroke of the Thane Cyclone. In Isai Ambalam School kids have been working with teachers and parents to improve roads and general conditions of gardens and buildings. The Volunteer Desk, located in the reception of the Town Hall, is offering the possibility to guests and Aurovilians to work together reverting the impacts left by the cyclone. The schools in Auroville are supposed to open on Monday the 9th of January. Read more

Flowering of potential for all

"Flowering of potential for all" is their red thread, and center is trying to be a safe space for children of all ages last seven years. For the open house children prepared many things, from exhibition of their work trough the year, magic show, and launching of a bilingual book "Blooming Thamarai" . Read more

The Tempest

Hazel (Photographer: miriam)On 2nd and 3rd of December our town will be richer for a Shakespeare play The Tempest, put onstage by English volunteer Hazel, by Aikiyam School children. Children and the whole school are working with all their enthusiasm to rehearse and put the play onstage on time. As Hazel told us, they were working on it even before she came to Auroville, and now they work intensively on the correct English, correct intonation, tone, posing.. For them this is also part of an English class project, and for Hazel to work with this children is a special joy.

Celebration of Evolution

Janaki (Photographer: Mriam)At Ilaignarkal Education Centre a traditional Navaratrhi Doll Show was prepared to mark the celebration of Evolution. In one of the rooms of the centre are displayed many amazing figurines and dolls from the rich spiritual Indian tradition. There are various and many practices depending on the part of India, including pujas, paryers, special food items to honour the Celebration of Evolution. Janaki guided us through, explaining different meanings and manners of the gods and godesses. Meenakshi did her usual annual special offering. Read more

Healthcare giver Certification

Caring and Giving (Photographer: Sharan)Auroville Life Education Centre celebrated the completion of the first 3-months Healthcare giver workshop. A lively audience watched the eight women participants of the workshop receive their certificates from Zerina, Coordinator LEC, and Ulrike who led workshop. It was heartwarming to hear the caregivers from neighbouring villages talk about their experience of undergoing a transformative workshop that changed their notions about the reality of caring for the sick. This was followed by some snacks and soulful music by Tiago and Anischa. Read more

Baraka - Grace

Mahi (Photographer: Yahalom)Sunny Sunday afternoon at Fertile Windmill, children and horses. To raise necessary funds for the horses and ponies to be fed under the roof at Baraka. Children of all ages together with Mahi and parents prepared a fundraising event and open house. We had a chance to see different skills of children on horses and their deep bonding with these lovable beings. Children prepared T-shirts with Baraka logo and some refreshments to sell. Caregiving at LEC

Care Giving (Photographer: Sharan)Urvasi addressed a group of women caregivers at Auroville's Life Education Center. She gave a lecture followed by a demonstration on the various aspects of caregiving and spoke about the importance of establishing a one-on-one rapport with patients in order to have a deeper understanding of their individual needs and problems. The group also discussed some of the challenges and difficulties caregivers face in their day to day interaction with their patients. Urvasi shed light on caregiver coping skills and responses to life situations. Read more
