Their over two months long volunteership at the Auroville Radio is about to end. In the conversation we find what triggered them to choose the Radio to contribute to the city. For Maria, an architect and artist, is the good place to connect all the ideas, all the facts, it is the right place to communicate to the entire world, and for the time being the only archive of most of the things that happen with accessibility to all. To Guiseppe, experimental anthropologist, radio is a good point where the wind come and stay together in peace Read more

Listen to a cross-cultural music experience by Marina and Nicolai from Bulgaria, who are spreading their instrumental and vocal music in different countries including Germany, India and Bulgaria. On Sunday evening they played in Sve-Dame, unfortunaltely facing some sound problems. After a rich Bulgarian dinner the audience listened to the tambura, other traditional instruments, and Nicolais sonorous voice. The combination of traditional folk music from Bulgaria and African or Indian music creates very unusual acoustics.

This recording was created on February 21st, shortly after the morning concentration at the Amphiteater. My walk started at the Matrimandir's gate toward the Banyan and back through the peace area, where I recorded conversations, guests entering the Matrimandir, workers busy in their tasks, and the songs of many birds. All the while, the rhythm of my feet on the earth accompanies the diverse sounds of the recording. Soundscapes, to me, share the beauty of a space in a way that doesn't have to be communicated in words; nothing but pure sound.

On Saturday 18th at 4 pm at Audio Visual Room of Kala Kendra, Bharat Nivas Pavillion of India, a collective of artists, Sindhu, Dass, Raghu and Ramesh, presented their movie "Metroxical New York" produced in New York.
This work captured a complex mix of global music using all performing arts, improvised acoustic sets, even hand made instruments, in a place where one can hear music for free: the Subway.
The experience demonstrates how a diverse audience can participate in dialogue without language, using music as universal form of communication.

Around sixty people gathered together on Saturday evening and listened to the contemplative piano music improvised by Hartmut von Lieres. He was born in Germany and has come to Auroville nine years ago. For him Auroville is the best place to express himself through his instrumental music. Nevertheless he also performs in Germany where he is quite famous. During his soulful songs the listeners had their eyes closed and followed the melodies with full concentration.
Listen to the concert's recording.

Aurelio sounded the Ring for the official opening of the new Svaram building. Puja interviewed him about this special day and its significance. He said that this particular building will serve as an exhibition place, storeroom and research space. Besides this Svaram has its first building on the outer ring road,. The new space replaces an old building that burnt down 3 years ago. It represents 1 degree of 360 degrees of the ring, and tries to invoke the original plan of Aruoville to manifest the symbol of the Galaxy plan.

On Thursday September 8 in the Picture Gallery at Savitri Bhavan Ladislav Brozman, a well-known musician and violinist from Sri Aurobindo Ashram performed a Solo Violin Recital. The repertoir was consisted of Sonatas by Johann Sebastian Bach (C-Major Sonata), Eugene Ysaye (First sonata for violin solo) and Arthur Honegger. The attending public was enraptured in enveloping sound-waves of eternal music. It was as if the higher world of harmony descended in this moment from higher spiritual plane.

The Full Moon was celebrated on Monday April 18th at the feet of Sri Aurobindo's status. Around ten persons gathered in Savitri Bahvan at 8pm for this enlightening event. Celebration started with a slow motion music to give everyone some time to be physically and spiritually present to the moment. Recorded talks from the Mother then opened the evening both in English and in French. Each participants were then invited to read a paragraph of the Savitri book (page 116 to 128) while the moon started its appearance right in the back of Sri Aurobindo's Status. Two commemorative compositions by Sunil were finally played to accompany the complete raise of the Full Moon in a very quiet, deep and meaningful moment.

And there was a sound...from far. Maybe heard by someone or something. How many messages do we send out every second? Maybe heard by someone or something. Responds or messages, communication in vain? And yet, we want it or not, we plan it or not, Divine does play its own role, the way it can, in given circumstances. And how often do we thank for the grace and blessings showered on us? Bounties of life are given to us over and over, on this small dot, called Earth in endless Universe.

Monday, 31 May 2010

We walked along together for a while. We went to some places through Tamil Nadu meeting Indian people and culture. We asked them to sing a little song just like that. Discover India through their voices: at a local market, then harvesting in a rice field, or at Pour Tous Auroville supermarket, inside a church for Easter and finally walking among mountains in Kodaikanal.

During the LFA (litter-free Auroville) campaign, AurovilleRadio was invited to participate in the exhibition room called stArt of Certitude's dome. We took this opportunity to produce a sound in order toawaken people's awareness of noise pollution. The manner in which people began to listen was quite imaginative. With the participation of Newcomer Marc, organiser of the exhibition and a designer, we imagined a box where everybody could enter, listen to the sound and be totally cut off from outside, in order to be fully focused on sounds. The result: a strange sort of soundproof cardboard box called “Sound Space”, a mysterious and darkened sound experience with a long waiting line attended mostly by kids..Read more mp3/2010_01_29_interview_lfa_noise_pollution_chloe_english_ed.mp3&totalTime=4:45 Monday, 15 February 2010

In quale ambiente sonoro vi trovereste immersi? Quali idiomi ascotereste?
