Who walk? What flies? Kabir Fest
Who walks? What flies? it's a collective exhibition about the Kabir poetry in Kala Kendra by 5 artists. Peter Netmail and the Edible Book
International Teahour of the Edible Book and MailArt exhibition Bake a Book a Day was presented by Peter Netmail in Aurelec Art Gallery. The International Edible Book Festival is a creation of Judith A. Hoffberg and Béatrice Coron. Judith got the idea over a Thanksgiving turkey with book artists in 1999. Béatrice created www.books2eat.com where despite the distances everybody can enjoy worldwide's creations. They contacted friends and colleagues; their first event happened in year 2000. Since then the festival continues as an annual sensation. Read more

Cyclone Inversions by Gotz Rogge
On Tuesday 27th at Savitri Bhavan opened the exhibition Cyclone Inversions by Gotz Rogge an artist and an experimental photographer from Berlin, Germany. He organized a workshop with Sasi Somu, the teacher of photography and art at the Future School. It involved some students to make large scale Camera Obscura photographic artifacts about the landscape generated by the cyclone. Resonance by Michel Nicolet
The exhibition Resonance by Michel Nicolet is open for other four Sundays at Petite Ferme, Auroville. The sculptor Michel Nicolet is showing us a remarkable set of objects. One could say that his presentation consists of three parts: his words, his drawings and his sculpture. The drawings, being two dimensional, appear to be a study towards a special kind of three dimensionality. In the interview (in French) Michel tells us about his life paths and connections, which draw him to Auroville and, through cymatics, to this exhibition. Read more

Ceramics Exhibition in Pitanga
Priya Sundaravalli from Tamil Nadu is currently having an exhibition in Pitanga. Over 300 ceramic objects, which are all very unique, can be visited until the 24th of March. Her art is quite unusual and the thin shapes of her creations make the items look fragile. Instead of thinking and planning her work, she is trying to let her inspiration flow freely and allows herself to do whatever is coming up. If items crack she repairs them with a Japanese technique: 'Nothing is a defect, accidents are seen as part of what is supposed to happen.' Read more

Polish Art Exhibition
On Saturday the 3rd at 4 pm in Kala Kendra is started the exhibition Misja Auropol (Mission in Auroville) by six contemporary artist from Poland currently residing in Auroville, . The Collective exhibition as a result of cultural geography experiment meant to test how the reality of Auroville would influence artists' attitudes and practices. The works shown at the exhibition present wide array of media used in contemporary art, from painting to sculpture, installation and experimental film. The project is curated by Janek Simon. Svaram 9th Birthday Celebration
The Svaram 9th Birthday was celebrated in the showroom building in front of the laboratory of musical instruments. It started at 5 pm with an invocation by Abbot Martin Mosko. He sang a ancient Zen Buddhist chant. At 5:15 pm there was a premiere listening of the CD Palm of my Hand (by Sunshine Music) a musical poetic collaboration by Anungla and Holger. Shortly after Katy Sedna performed two songs with her acustic guitar. Later played the trio composed by Harshad (santoor), Nadaprem (violin and bansuri) and Teo (space drum). Read more

Glagolitic Traces Exhibition
On Saturday 3th at Tibetan Pavillon opened the "Glagolitic Traces" Exhibition of Antonia Duende's paintings, open untill the 10th of March as part of the events for invocation of Bulgarian Pavillion. There was also a musical offering by Nikolai , Marina and Aurelio, and a poem in Bulgarian language from Narender Khatri. The paintings incorporate traces from stone inscriptions of the Glagolitic alphabet - the first Slavonic alphabet, created in the middle of the 9th century AD by St. Kostantin-Cyril the Philosopher and his brother Methodius. EcoPro`s awareness campaign
The anti-waste organization from Auroville has been promoting responsible waste management for two years in Periyamudaliarchavadi (PMC), one of the small villages around Auroville. Last March 3rd, Niranjan Kumar and Ribhu Vohra held an exhibition for the local children, displaying the causes and effects of pollution through pictures and posters. Through this, they hope that the kids start to encourage their parents to treat waste more carefully. EcoPro also tries to increase awareness by painting walls with anti-litter messages. Read more

Pole Artists on Mission Auroville

Opening presentation on 'Mission Auroville': an experiment in cultural geography by 6 Polish artists who are visiting Auroville for 2 months. Vocabulary of culture texts produced in Poland often deals with questions on historical and personal fears and mishappenings. The project aims at confronting these kinds of attitudes with utopian, optimistic and future-oriented reality of Auroville. The project is a colaboration between Museum of Art in Lodz and Kala Kendra Gallery with support from Goldex Poldex and the Adam Mickiewicz Insitute. Read more

Interviews at Rinpoche`s talk
Prior to Prof Samdhong Rinpoche's arrival, interviews were sought with two Tibetan exchange students Namgyal and Tsened, and Jungchup from Auroville. They were waiting at the entrance of the Tibetan Pavillion to see the rare photos of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, and his documented asylum into India and a talk delivered by Rinpoche. Each one spoke very sweetly of their experiences living in Auroville. Firstly, Namgyal covered the topic of the Mahayana discipline of meditation and, how to be a 'better man' for Tibet. Read more

Aurodhan Gallery at Pondicherry will present on Friday 3th of February an interesting "Pondicherry" exhibition of selection of fine art photographic images exclusively selected from the book launched at the same time. Sebastian shared with us some insights on the process of making the book, which is collaboration of photographic artistic view of life heritage of Pondicherry with written word of Pascal Bruckner, Akash Kapur and Amin Jaffer, all experts on their fields of exploration. No doubt that talk on Lucy - mother of us all at the National Museum of Ethiopia , and the interaction on "Human Unity in Evolution" deeply impressed all the participants. Dr. Berhane Asfaw, leading Ethiopian Paleontologist presented Ethiopian archeological finds related to the evolution of the hominid to man, and after seeing Lucy in the next door we were following with huge respect and anticipation. Celebration of Evolution
At Ilaignarkal Education Centre a traditional Navaratrhi Doll Show was prepared to mark the celebration of Evolution. In one of the rooms of the centre are displayed many amazing figurines and dolls from the rich spiritual Indian tradition. There are various and many practices depending on the part of India, including pujas, paryers, special food items to honour the Celebration of Evolution. Janaki guided us through, explaining different meanings and manners of the gods and godesses. Meenakshi did her usual annual special offering. Read more

On last Saturday 6th of August in Pavilion of Tibetan Culture they inaugurated the exhibition of photos on the day of Auroville Marathon taken by Sarath Shenoy and here’s a short interview with him made by Tanja. NAGA-MANDALA adapted from the play by Girish Karnad will be performed at CRIPA in Kalabhumi on August 13th 14th 2011 at 5pm. We feature short interview with Jill, the director of it. The Auroville FIlm Festival '11 will be bigger than in 2009! The number of locations where it will be happening, the installations, exhibitions: a group of video artists from Berlin gifted to Film Festival '11 fancy installations, which most likely will be on display at La Terrace at Solar Kitchen and at Town Hall.
