Akatha Kahani: untellable story
Akatha Kahani or untellable story is a presentation on Kabir, where three sisters attempt to showcase this special alchemy between Kabir and his listeners by sharing their individual encounters with Kabir. One wrote a book for young adults, another sings her songs passionately and yet another expresses Kabir's impact on her through Bharatnatyam. Akatha Kahani, features Jaya Madhavan author of Kabir the weaver poet book, Bindhumalini a singer trained in both Carnatic and Hindustani music and Archana, a Bharatnatyam dancer and French translator. Kabir - Mooralala Marwada
At early morning hours as last Mooralala Marwada with his group came on the stage of Kalabhumi at Kabir Music Sacred Festival last Saturday. Although number of audience substantially decreased, those who stayed cheered them with laughter and laud halo, which supposed to be Mooralala wake up call, so that no one is left asleep at the time when they sing. He is a folk singer from Kutch district of Gujarat in Western India, and sings the poetry of Kabir along with other poets such as Mira, Ravidas or Sufi Sindhi poet Shah Abdul Lateef Bhitai Read more

Kalari-Fest by Udayan`s Masters

Kalarippayat, Mohiniyattam and Theyyam were performed by the Udayan's Masters at Sri Aurobindo Auditorium. Kalarippayat is a great and ancient physical, cultural and martial art of Kerala, which was in prevalence from time immemorial. It is primarily an art of physical culture, well developed in a most scientific way. It aims at giving a practitioner of the art, perfect control over his body balance, flexibility, stamina and speed, and perfect neuro-muscular co-ordination, an ability of the body to react instinctively to the senses. Unspins Bharatanatyam
She who Unspins, performed by Ashwini Kaarthikeyan, was presented at Sri Aurobindo Auditorium, Bharat Nivas. The performance was accompanied with live music by P.T. Narendran (Nattuvangam), G. Srikanth (Vocal), B.P. Haribabu (Mridangam), Easwar Ramakrishnan (Violin), Devaraj (Flute). ALL IS ONE
Positive energy pumped up by the beat of the music, strongly present but not aggressive, quite opposite is rapping for peace. And what a group of people with positive attitude can do in a few days with such an input of energy was shown at the ALL IS ONE performance at Visitors' Centre last night. Each One Teach One
The workshop and performance organization Each One Teach One collaborates with various breakdance crews from Germany and Aurovillian musicians to give a breakdance workshop and to perform in Auroville and Pondicherry. The workshop starts tomorrow, March 31st in Verite. Everyone is invited to come and learn and benefit from each other. Gopika Varma`s Mohiniyattam dance

The dance form of Mohiniyattam comes from Kerala. The name Mohiniyattam literally means 'Dance of the Enchantress, Gopika Varma's training in Mohiniyattam since the age of ten has been under eminent gurus senior students of Kalyani Kuttyamma whose student she continued to be for 10 years. And here she is, accompanied by three dancers and a group of musicians, performing in Bharat Nivas. Unfortunately, this recording contains only sound, but the live music is definitely worth listening to, and the pictures give a good impression of the evening. Read more

Children of Deepanam School prepared, as usual for the end of the year small cultural program to share with their parents, friends and community. Opening piece was by Keshava on tabla, accompanied by Nadaka on guitar, followed by bharatnatyam classical Indian dance of older and a bit younger children of the school. Songs were sung, this year, except the last one, all in Tamil. And that was also the language of two plays, one of an old fable, the other original piece by students, leaving us roaring with laughter; and third one in French. Read more

Adoration of the Mother
On Saturday the 10th in Amphitheater of Matrimandir was played the performance Adoration for the Mother. It was the inauguration of the starting program of Tantidhatri International Women's Performing Art Festival. The performance with movement, dance, Russian bells, voice and projected images, has realized by Grace, Jyoti, Joy, Kanchana, Liudmila, Manjula, Srimoyi, Terra & Vera. Shadow Liberation
Shadow Liberation is an experimental theater group of Evan Hastings and his students from Srishti School of Art, Design & Technology in Bangalore. Evan is a theater artist and drama therapist from USA, who directs and produces original performance pieces that grapple with pressing issues while innovative aesthetics invite audience engagement. Radha Bhav by Parvathy Baul
Parvathy Baul, so well known to Auroville audience and always warmly welcome for who she is, what she quietly yet firmly stands for, this time organized the Tantidhatri Festival. Her own journey as a Baul singer has not been one lined with roses, but the call for it was stronger for her. In her play, her songs, her mesmerizing voice and passion and energy brought to life a universal story of love. Her paintings, as part of the performance, vividly depicted the characters of Rahda and Krishna and others. Read more

The Tradition of Kamigatamai
This is a performance called 'Yuki' by Keiin Yoshimura from Japan. It is one of the most popular jiuta dances which tells the story about the Japanese woman Yuki who decides to become a nun in a monastery. Accompanied by traditional Japanese music (Soh Sugiura) Keiins sublime movements and her fascinating appearance impressed the audience. Rock and Love in Visitor Center
As every year, Anna was back on stage with her concert 'Rock and Love for Your Soul' for all of us rock (and of course funk, soul, r&b) music lovers. And, as one guest exhaled, we went down the memory lane... From lady Gaga to Stones, from Adele to Michael Jackson... The music made us move and shake our bodies to the groove (though some got a bit too excited!). Anna was supported by Pierre (Guitar), Edo (Guitar), Saga (Bass) and Saravanan (Drums). Kamigatamai begins Tantidhatri
Keiin Yoshimura opened the Tantidhatri International Women's Performing Arts Festival with her captivating Kamigatamai dance performance of Japan, at the Unity Pavillion in International Zone on Sunday, March 11, 2012. This dance form, Kamigata-mai, was born and developed in the Kamigata (Kyoto-Osaka) region of Japan in the 16th Century. Holi Tango Festival in Auroville

'Around the world women are rising up and joining hands to lay the foundation for peace and human unity.' Yesterday at the 8th of March, around 60 women, children and a few male spectators gathered at the Tibetan Pavilion to celebrate the International Womens Day. Nirantara Samarpanam Modern Dance
On Sunday 26th at 19:30 in Auditorium of Bharat Nivas, Savitri Maya and Grace Gitadelila performed in the show "Nirantara Samarpanam". The performance is about the story of the Kolam through dance and multimedia with rhythmic music and Mantra. During the dance a video was projected on a huge screen. Indian Dance and Spirituality
Dr. Rekha Tandon, an Indian Classical dancer, presented an often forgotten similarity between yoga and dance, especially classical Indian, where both are exploratory forms in which we work through matter to find the spirit. As in yoga, the Indian classical dance poses are much about balancing the body, the spinal chord, and so the chakras. And as in the yogic chakra system, by practicing the Indian classical dance forms, a person can truly begin to experience the transition from matter to spirit.

Yemadas
Night was late already due to the technical problems earlier in the afternoon when Yemadas came on the stage. Yemadas - nomads with positive attitude as they explained way back always come with some new members, and some new worldly instruments. This toss their songs were softened by space drum, violin and flute, and in some songs we had a chance to hear didgereedoo as well. Auroville Choir at CRIPA
With the opening concert by the Auroville Choir, CRIPA - The Center for Research in the Performing Arts, opened its doors. Afsanah shortly introduced the purpose of CRIPA, which is near its completion, with the songs of the Auroville Choir led by Nuria. Sound design of CRIPA was led by Didier, and the sounds of the Auroville Choir quickly proved the quality of Didier's design. Although the Performance Hall in CRIPA is a large space, its capacity couldn't accommodate the great amount of people who wanted to listen to the opening concert. Read more

”We are Sound” Workshop
One day before the cyclone Thane, on the 29th of December 2011, the Italian musicians Ludovica and Paolo offered a music workshop in the Life Education Centre of Auroville, teaching Tamil girls how to express themselves through sound and rhythm. During this rainy morning the LEC girls enjoy the flavour of gypsy music performed by Ludovica and Paolo, sang African songs of joy, learned to play different instruments, to make sound with their own bodies, while dancing and laughing with the diversity of activities developed during the workshop.
